ARTIST STATEMENT This body of work references the landscape and environment as metaphors for life as I tap into the subtle energies of nature and self. Most of my forms relate to the notion of the vessel which I feel represents containers of our spirits as metaphors for our person. I see a dance between the forms. It teaches me that there is a rhythm to life, an ebb and flow with ourselves and others as we continue to move inward and outward while maintaining a sense of forward momentum. We are as much a part of the landscape as the mountain we stand on. The sculptures are no longer objects to look at, but become spaces to experience. I let the process lead me as I go: each mark I make informs the next. Barbara Sorensen
